About Ilg-Martin Family
Hello All!

I have spent my time since 2010 attempting to fill out and improve my family tree on both the Ilg and Martin side. I appreciate input, and if you ever find anything that doesn't seem right, or if you have a question, let me know.

I haven't been the best about citing my sources, especially when I find a family tree completed by someone else. Let it be said that I find most of my marriage or census records on FamilySearch. I will always state in the description if there was something unusual about the records (Like someone named Hedwig being called Edwin in the 1880 census), but other than that there isn't currently a link to the original source.

Because I realize failing to cite my sources is a problem, let me state the online family trees from which I gathered the most information. These trees often list their original sources far better than I have.

Westfall: Starting with Levi Westfall born December 7 1790 and going back, I used a Westfall
genealogy compiled by Walter Westfall. I consulted other sources as well, and listed any
disagreements in individual people descriptions. I was able to find 3 of Levi's children and one of
his marriages on my own, but his other two marriages, children, and all his ancestors, I got with
the help of the Westfall genealogy website. See it here: http://westfall55.com/

Bottomfield: Essentially all Bottomfields, Bottenfields, Battenfields and Battenfeld's came from the
same source. Namely, any ancestor of Elizabeth Bottomfield, born June 27 1847, I got from this web
site: Parks
Genealogy File. I verified what Icould with census data, but most of it seemed to be original
research. It is very well cited, although the e-mail for the website administrator is no longer valid.

Reinert, Barth, Kraus, and other German Families: While census data helped me greatly, nothing was
quite as extensive as the online Jacobs / Adier family tree. It was compiled by a man living in
Alsace, Lorraine France who was able to travel and access many original sources not currently
available on the web. The web site he uses will translate to English, however if you want to contact
him personally, he only speaks French and German. I can speak some German if you wish for me to ask
him a question on your behalf. See here: http://gw.geneanet.org/ejacobs?lang=de. I will say
I found the Barth information, primarily on my own, but his web site confirmed. Starting with
MichaelReinert 1763-1830 I used the tree for aid with his ancestors, and found more children. The
Kraus last name was entirely due to his research.

Martin: I used this website to find more names:
Morgan Martin. I
currently have no link to Zephaniah Martin, because evidence that he was related to other Martins
was found to be unreliable. However, before I noticed this unreliable evidence, I added a lot of
Martins and their relations that would take to much time to delete. If you stumble across them, my
sources can be found here:
Robert
Smart and here: The
Cox Family and other Sussex County, NJ lines.

Ebersole: I have added info on the Ebersole family, but stopped when I began noticing discrepancies
and disagreements about the relations. However, all the info I do have was found here:
 EVERSOLE /
EBERSOLE et al data

Nunn: I got my info from a man on ancestry named Stefan who goes under the user name bat6469. He's a
German native, and he did a lot of original research. I'm not certain if you'll be able to see his
research without an ancestry account, but you can find it here:
 Fussnacht/Nunn family tree

Hanna: I painstakingly researched my own Hanna ancestry up to Joseph Hanna who married Mary Jane
Montgomery. An ancestry tree by smoenter1 connected Joseph Hanna to Moses Hanna born 1799. See here:
 Hanna. Once that link was
established, a well researched and established Hanna genealogy was found. I continued to use
smoenter1's site, but also used this as a resource: Hanna Research

Sutton and Shark: I contacted a woman named Loretta to see how she had so much more info on the
Suttons and Sharks than could be found online. She said she had a close relative related to that
family who had done research, and also had access to the original records in Kentucky. See here:
 Sutton Family

Ilg: I also received a helping hand from Theresa with the Ilg family. I found she had posted a story about her search for Severin Ilg, and we shared resources.

Dister: I got most of my information from my cousin Jack Dister, who has a website on Tribal Pages
here: http://jedister.tribalpages.com

If there's anything else you'd like to know where I got it from, please let me know.

-Beth Martin

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list. Birthdays and Anniversaries of living persons are listed by month. Want to know how you are related to anybody ? Check out the Relationships tool.
